This decision was made by the jury of the All-Russian competition “The Leader of the ACT 2003”, which determined the Astrakhan College of Computing Technology (AKVT) as the winner in the nomination “Leader in the development of information technology training”. The founders of this contest are the Ministry of Education, the Union of Directors of State Universities of Russia, the Russian Academy of Education, the committees of the Council of the Federation and the State Duma for Education and Science.
The presentation of the commemorative medal, symbol and diploma of the competition was held in the hall of the Council of Federation of Russia on June 30, 2004. The main prize of the competition is a pelican made in the Gzhel technique, which spread its wings over a nest with chicks, symbolizes the main goal of Russian education: to protect, raise, train a young shift - the future of Russia.
We received the prize winner from the hands of the Deputy Minister of Education A.F. Kiselev in the presence of representatives of the Federation Council of the State Duma of the country. This is a great honor, which the whole team perceived not only as recognition of certain achievements of the educational institution today, but also as trust, which must be justified, as a sign of reference for the new beginnings of a dynamically developing team.
In accordance with the ever-increasing requirements for the quality of training of specialists with secondary vocational education, caused not only by the progressive processes of development of science, technology and technology, but also by the increasing complexity of the socio-economic situation in the country, the main goal of the teaching staff of the college is to train specialists with fundamental knowledge and skills in professional activities, able to quickly adapt to changing conditions of life. To this end, the college pays a lot of attention to systemic modernization of the educational process, which includes several areas. These are fundamentally new approaches to the formation of a contingent of students, the creation of a modern teaching and methodological base, the advanced training of teachers, the provision of favorable conditions for the development of a student’s personality in the development of moral and ethical qualities, patriotism, the desire for self-development and continuing education. To date, much has been done. The college has a local computer network, which unites 120 workstations, including the library. This made it possible to use the automated management system “Electronic College”, the creation of a unified information space, which includes training programs, knowledge control programs, electronic textbooks, professional software packages, reference and legal systems.
In the framework of the automated control system “Electronic College”, the work of the college’s structural units has been automated - educational, personnel department, departments in specialties, administration, library, college laboratories.
Along with the traditional specialties related to the training of specialists in the field of operation, maintenance of computer equipment, the college trains specialists for the oil and gas industry. Since September 1, 2004 a new specialty “Information Security” has been opened. In addition to AKVT, the right to open such a specialty was received by only six educational institutions of the SPO of Russia.
AKVT works in the system of continuous education, cooperating with leading higher educational institutions - Astrakhan State University (ASU), Astrakhan State Technical University (ASTU), Taganrog State Radio-Technical University (TSURE). In 2003, the college became a member of the association of institutions of the Southern Federal District “Continuing Professional Open Education”, which trains specialists in the field of high technologies. The association solves problems related to meeting the needs of citizens in obtaining secondary and higher professional education.
The last years the college is a regular participant of the All-Russian educational forums and exhibitions held in Moscow. AKVT innovative projects become laureates of the All-Russian educational forum “School-2003”, “School-2004” and are awarded the gold medal “Laureate of the All-Russia Exhibition Center”.
The AKVT team does not stop at what has been accomplished, continues to create and experiment. It is hoped that tomorrow will bring to the school new achievements in the development of information technology training and education for the benefit of the region and Russia. For this, the college team strives always to be “on the ridge”, to keep up with the times.

V. AKSENOV, AKVT Director, Honored Teacher of Russia.
